DURHAM – After a 3-0 weekend, the Duke volleyball team (9-2) will open their ACC slate this weekend with Boston College (11-4) and Syracuse (11-2).
The Blue Devils face the Eagles on Friday at 6:30 p.m., before a Sunday game at 1:00 p.m. against the Orange. Both matches will be broadcast on ACCNX from Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Duke swept away his three opponents (Cornell, Long Island and NC Central) in the last non-conference weekend. Senior Libero Mackenzie cole racked up 51 digs and scored six aces in service, becoming the 18th Blue Devil to reach the 100 ace plateau for her career. Senior ferryman Alex springate had 78 assists as Cole, Lizzie fleming and Springate were named to the Duke Classic Tournament All-Star Team.
TAKE A CLOSER LOOK AT THE SERIES
BOSTON COLLEGE: Friday marks the 25th meeting in program history between the Blue Devils and the Eagles as Duke has a solid 22-2 advantage in the series. When they last met in March 2021, the Blue Devils won a 3-0 sweep at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
SYRACUSE: Duke holds a narrow 6-5 series lead against Syracuse, but has lost four of the last five games. In March 2021, the Orange won the marathon in five sets (3-2) in New York.
SEARCH FOR OPPONENTS
BOSTON COLLEGE: Boston College and Syracuse met Wednesday for a midweek game at Chestnut Hill and the Eagles won a 3-1 victory over the Orange. Prior to Wednesday’s victory, the Eagles (11-4) had lost three straight games. Offensively, Boston College is led by Clare Naughton (204 kills, 0.256 stroke percentage) while passers Grace Penn and Sophia Lambros have accumulated more than 500 assists. Libero Anna Murphy has 213 digs while the Eagles rank fifth in the ACC for total digs.
SYRACUSE: The Orange (11-2) broke a four-game winning streak Wednesday with a loss to Boston College. The Orange are led by Marina Markova (215 kills) and Polina Shemanova (205 kills) while passer Karakasi recorded 469 assists. Syracuse ranks in the top five in seven different categories, evidenced by an impressive 0.314 winning percentage to rank second in the country.
COLE IS RANKED AMONG THE BEST
Senior Libero Mackenzie cole is ranked 29th on the NCAA’s Active Career Leaders list with 1,407 career digs to date. She needs 162 to get into the top 20. She is also currently ranked eighth on the Duke charts of all time. Cole was one of Duke’s top defensive specialists during his time at Durham and has 19 games with over 20 digs. Her career high of 29 came against North Carolina on November 17, 2018. She also has 102 serving aces, becoming the 18th player in Duke history to reach the milestone.

Duke will hit the road for his first pair of ACC road races. The Blue Devils face Pitt on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. in Pittsburgh before a 3 p.m. game against Virginia on Sunday. Sunday’s game in Charlottesville will air on ACCN.
