Glove Love

Hey friends! I’m back from my internet vacation and I have a great finished knitted object to share: new gloves!

These gloves, made from a great free pattern by Julia Mueller, were my second project for the Camp Loopy virtual summer camp for knitters going on over at The Loopy Ewe. For this project, Camp Loopy challenged us to make socks, gloves, or mittens with cables. I originally ordered this pretty blue Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock yarn intending to make cabled socks, but in a stroke of luck I remembered something important from last winter: I don’t really have any knitted gloves that I like.

Seriously, I’ve been wearing some very sad store-bought acrylic fleece gloves. No self-respecting knitter should be seen in gloves like the ones I’ve been relying on.  Thank heavens Camp Loopy helped me avoid further embarrassment here.

So I ditched the plan to make socks and went with these fingering weight gloves with a pretty cable detail at the wrist instead.

These were a quick (10 days knitting on them somewhat exclusively) and surprisingly satisfying project. Knitting fingers on dpns was not nearly as annoying as I’d feared it would be and I love having the ability to custom fit the fingers. The Lorna’s Laces yarn was perfect for this project, too: so soft but high-twist enough to hold up to what is likely to be less than gentle treatment in my daily life of dog-walking and hauling heavy books to and from the library this winter.

Yet another great life lesson learned from a knitting project: keep a loose hold on initial plans because better plans and outcomes may be just around the corner once you get your hands on the yarn.

Hoorah for knitting yourself out of disrespectfulness ;) They’re gorgeous, and they’ll be lots of fun to show off this winter!

Ooooh, pretty:) And also, the nice long cuff will help keep the cold wind out in winter: no mean gaps between coatsleeve and glove for you :)

Wow! Normally I am not a fan of variegated yarn and cables together, but these are really beautiful and the color doesn’t seem to hide the cables at all! Love it!
