Cool Tools: Drawer Liner as No-Slip Spinning Mat

Ever find your spinning wheel sliding away from you as you work? I used to have this problem all the time, especially when trying to spin on carpet.  After suffering through the problem for awhile and then trying in vain to brace the bottom of my Lendrum against heavy objects, I hit upon this simple solution: a no-slip rubber mat cut from a simple drawer liner.

These rubber grid drawer liners can be purchased in roll form at any big box discount store for under $5 a piece. I’ve also seen similar drawer liners available at Ikea. Mine came from Walmart and I believe it rang in at $1.99.  Look for these in the kitchen storage area. They are usually on a rack near the Contact paper.  Since the product comes in a big roll, you can cut the mat to exactly the size you like.

Here is a shot of my Lendrum wheel with its handy mat:

And a close up shot of the material itself:

Now I just need to decide what to do with the leftover mat. I wonder if this stuff would make good slipper soles…
